The good, the bad, and the ugly from the Saints’ win against the Buccaneers

The Good: Defense

The New Orleans Saints defense turned in one of their best performances on Sunday, holding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers scoreless through three quarters while also getting 4 takeaways. The Bucs offense came into this game hot, as quarterback Baker Mayfield had passed for over 800 yards with 8 touchdowns and no interceptions in his last three games. The Saints defense however gave Baker his first multi-interception game of the season and held Tampa to their lowest point total since Week 7.

The Bad: Nothing

The Saints did not do anything bad in this game, as it was one of their most complete wins of the season. The run game got back on track rushing for over 100 yards, and Derek Carr played a good game with only 8 incompletions and no turnovers. It’s late in the season with just one game left to play, I’m not going to go searching for things to criticize about a win like this.

The Ugly: Playoff chances

The Saints chances of a division title rest on them beating the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. The Saints must win and have the 2-14 Panthers defeat the Bucs to capture the NFC South crown as they lose out on the tiebreaker to the Bucs by virtue of having a worse record against the conference. The Saints could also sneak in as a wild card team with a win and a loss by the Packers and Seahawks. Each team the Saints need to lose are currently favored in their matchups, but stranger things have happened.
