The New Orleans Saints rookies are reporting to training camp next week, and there are many players to watch. There is only one sure-thing starter from this rookie class, and that is Taliese Fuaga. The rest of the rookies will have to fight for their roster spots, and while doing that, a few could even jump to starters.
Bub Means
Being drafted in the fifth-round does not bring high year-one expectations. Bub Means has the potential to rise high above the expectations set on him in 2024. Going into the NFL Draft, Means was considered a raw player with elite athleticism. His QB play at Pitt was not good, which was a catalyst for Means’s lack of production in college. Carr will be the best quarterback that Means has ever played with, and it could be a really good partnership. Without injuries, the Saints only have two certified starting wide receivers: Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. That third spot is still up for grabs, and Bub Means can be the one to take it. With injuries, which can be frequent with wide receivers, Means has even better odds of becoming a starter in 2024.
Dallin Holker
The Saints have had a great track record with undrafted free agents. Dallin Holker looks to be added to that impressive list. The tight end out of Colorado State was projected to be drafted around the 6th round of the NFL Draft. Luckily for the Saints, he was not selected. Like Means, Holker is an uber-athletic player who can make a difference on any offense. As of now, the Saints tight end room is Taysom Hill, Juwan Johnson, and Foster Moreau. Two or more tight ends will be used as starters, so with Taysom being played all over the field and Juwan Johnson dealing with injuries, Holker has the potential to break through. If he is able to improve on blocking, there will be no doubt that Holker can become a main starter on the roster.
Millard Bradford
Another UDFA rookie who could become a starter in 2024 is TCU safety Millard Bradford. Racking up multiple interceptions In OTAs, Bradford was arguably the biggest surprise and one of the best performers. The Saints current safety room is very good, but one injury away from panic. There are high odds that Bradford will be chosen for a roster spot, and he may even rise into a starting position. He could be used as the fourth safety or special teamer throughout the season, and if any starter gets injured, Bradford can take the spot.
