Ochsner Health has collaborated with NOLA Public Schools, Scholastic Books and the Saints to support Orleans Parish public schools by hosting three student book fairs in March and April to promote the importance and joy of reading. Ochsner will donate 300 books per school, and each student will receive three books to take home at no cost to them or the school.

The other two events will be held on Thursday, April 4th at Lawrence Crocker Charter and Wednesday, April 24th at The NET East.

Increasing equitable access to high-quality learning and enhancing STEM literacy begins with a foundation in reading.

After 366 votes, former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons won with 50.3% of the vote. The Saints released starting safety Marcus Maye earlier this offseason leaving them thin at safety. Simmons is a 4-time second team All-Pro at safety and has 30 career interceptions. The Saints have the space to sign him now as they have finally got themselves below the cap. They would have to find a way to fit him with Tyrann Mathieu, as they both play free safety, but if you have a chance to sign a player as talented as Simmons you will make it work.

Coming in second with 20.5% of the vote is former Dolphins CB Xavien Howard. The Saints aren’t in need of a CB as much as a safety as they will be getting Marshon Lattimore back from injury and Paulson Adebo has broken out into a solid CB2. Howard would provide veteran depth at CB though so I wouldn’t be surprised if the Saints pursue him.

Hunter Renfrow, former Raider and teammate of Saints quarterback Derek Carr earned 19.9% of the vote. Renfrow has not been the same player the last two years as he was after breaking out in 2021, but perhaps a change of scenery and reuniting with Carr can reinvigorate his career.

The most notable player participating was LSU QB and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. While Daniels’ performance drew lots of positive attention, he stood out for another very impressive reason. Daniels wore a hoodie with the #3 in honor of his fellow Tigers teammate Greg Brooks Jr., who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.
Saints address their major needs early.

It’s mock draft season!

My first official New Orleans Saints mock draft of the year, one of my favorite things to do in the offseason and it’s at a great time as well. The combine just recently concluded and with free agency starting shortly it feels like the right time to get the first one in.

So before I start, I just want to highlight some needs for the team so that you guys understand the thought process of these picks. I will also provide a little explanation of each pick as well right underneath the selection.

With all that being said, let us begin...

Team needs:

OT/G

Offensive tackle seems like the only option in the first round for the Saints now with the recent news on Ryan Ramczyk medical. Taking Fuaga here gives you an immediate option at either tackle spot and has all the tools to potentially become an above average starter day one. This selection feels right in all areas.

Round 2: Pick 45 - Braden Fiske, DT Florida State

Fiske is one the drafts biggest risers this year, starting out as a probable fourth round prospect, Fiske has shot up the draft boards with stellar pre-draft performances. With the need for some pass rush all along the Saints defensive line and the limited depth at defensive tackle, Fiske would immediately change the view of that position. His impressive hand usage and short area quickness would have interior offensive lineman’s head’s spinning trying to stop him and fellow defensive tackle Bryan Bresee. This would be a no brainer for me if he’s still available when they pick.

Round 3: Pick 90 (trade w/ Arizona) - Calen Bullock, S USC

Knowing the Saints will trade up at some point in this draft (only not kidding), coming up for a safety at this point in the draft seems just right. There aren’t many safeties that are ranked high this year in terms of being worthy of a top selection which makes this area the sweet spot for a potential starter at that position. Calen Bullock is a quick, rangy player with ball-hawking abilities. Although he needs some work as a run defender, his ability to cover ground and react to the quarterback trumps those deficiencies. He’s also had a lot of success in man coverage allowing him to potentially play down low in some of the team’s dime packages, adding value at that spot. The Saints desperately need another young safety in the fold moving forward, Bullock could for sure be that guy.

Round 5: Pick 144 (trade w/ Buffalo) - Jalen Coker, WR Holy Cross

Coker is someone that I believe is slept on a little bit in this draft. He isn’t going to wow you with speed or athleticism but he is as crafty as they come. Coker’s ability to win at the line and make contested catches, makes up for the lack of explosiveness in his game. The big question that many ask is whether he can translate this to the next level where athletes are now world-class. With that being said, I believe if placed in the right situation Coker can make some noise if given the opportunities.

Round 6: Pick 199 - Myles Cole, DE Texas Tech

Photo by John E. Moore III/Getty Images

I don’t get feeling that the Saints will add a defensive end early in this draft being that they have a lot of guys at that spot already, unless someone like Dallas Turner falls to them at 14. However, adding a late round guy with unique traits makes a lot of sense. Myles Cole out of Texas Tech is someone who I think is really intriguing. At 6’6 278 lbs, Cole is a mountain of a man. Running 4.67 40 to pair with some top jump numbers as well, really made up for his limited production in college. When it comes to him on the field, Cole does a great job of extending his arms forward and laterally keeping offensive lineman from engaging against the run. He also has the quickness to cut off blocks in order to make plays on the ball as well. Watching him move, reminded me a little bit of Carl Granderson. Not the twitchiest but can win with length and has enough speed to close space. Nonetheless, a potentially great developmental prospect the Saints can add.

Jawhar Jordan burst on to the scene the past two years at Louisville as their explosive playmaker on offense. Standing at only 5’9 1⁄2 193 lbs, Jordan plays much bigger than his size. His toughness and exceptional vision is what gives him an edge as a runner. His ability to read blocks and put himself in favorable positions to gain extra yardage is what makes him special as a prospect. In terms of speed and quickness, he doesn’t possess the quick burst or lateral movement that you’re looking for in your top back but does have the long speed once he hits the edge or gets past the second level. He also gives you value as a returner as well which I believe could bode well in him making a 53-man roster.

Here are some players that I think will have great NFL careers.

One of the hardest things to do when looking at prospects in the NFL Draft is to know if they will be successful in the NFL. There are always draft busts, and there are players drafted in late rounds who become amazing in the NFL. I tried to find some prospects that will be successful no matter where they are drafted.

Braden Fiske DT - Florida State

Since January, Braden Fiske has been among my favorite prospects in the 2024 Draft. At that time, he was projected to go around the 5th round, but now he has been slated to go in the 2nd round. Fiske was arguably the best player at this year’s Senior Bowl. He dominated in drills and the Senior Bowl game. Fiske also showed a lot of character, having to be traded to the opposing team because of roster space. He was totally fine with it, even though he had to play under a new game plan. As I said before, he played really well, even when faced with adversity.

Going into the NFL combine, many expected Fiske to duplicate his prior Senior Bowl performance. He didn’t just duplicate it; he exceeded any expectations put on him. Fiske’s outstanding performance made him one of the top performers at the combine and propelled him into the second or even the first round.

If the Saints end up going with the best player available at pick 45, Braden Fiske must be in consideration. Defensive tackle is not the biggest need for the Saints, but having another dominant tackle next to Bryan Breese would be exceptional. The Saints have been looking for more speed on defense all season, for example, the signing of Chase Young and Willie Gay. Picking Fiske would be another example of upgrading the speed, but it would also improve the run defense.

Cooper Beebe OG - Kansas State

Cooper Beebe is a newer prospect to my favorites list, but that is more due to my unfamiliarity with him than his play. Beebe is an absolute mauler on the offensive line and has great athleticism. Beebe is very versatile at the run-and-pass game, in particular lead blocking. At 6-foot-3, 322 pounds, he can move with exemplary patience while lead blocking and can find the perfect player to target so that the runner can gain more yards. In pure pass protection, Beebe can dominate, not allowing anyone to outstrength him. This was evident when he faced fellow 2024 NFL prospects T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy. Beebe was able to hold his own against Sweat, known for his strength, and Murphy, known for his finesse/speed.

At the NFL Combine, Cooper Beebe had an impressive performance. As I mentioned before, Beebe is 6-foot-3, 322 pounds, and a player of this size usually cannot move like he can. In the 40-yard dash, Beebe ran a 5.03, which is insanely impressive for his size, but there are two drills that are most important for interior offensive linemen. Although it is not perfect, the three-cone drill and the shuttle are the best predictors of the success of guard prospects in the NFL. In Cooper Beebe’s case, he had amazing numbers in these drills. In the shuttle, he did it in 4.61 seconds, which is in the 80th percentile. Even more impressively, he did the three-cone drill in 7.44 seconds, which fell in the 92nd percentile.

For the New Orleans Saints, Beebe would be a perfect pick. He is unlikely to make it out of the third round at the latest. If the Saints were to pick him, it would be at pick 45, which is absolutely fine. If the Saints end up not going with an offensive lineman in the first round, they need to in the 2nd round. Currently, the team does not have a starting left guard on the roster, so filling that need before next season is vital. Beebe can contribute right away at that guard position and could become a vital part of the Saints’ offensive line. He would fit perfectly in the new scheme, dominating in the zone run game. Another interesting point is that he was invited to the Senior Bowl but did not participate, which still counts for the Saints checklist.

Since I started looking at prospects before the season started, this player has been one of my favorite prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. Cam Hart is a very talented cornerback prospect out of Notre Dame. He is primarily a man corner and is great at securing tackles. In coverage, Hart has the speed to stay with his matchup while also being able to recognize a route and hit the ball away. As I mentioned, Hart is a really good tackler who can consistently hit hard behind the line of scrimmage. In this past season, Hart’s best game was against Marvin Harrison Jr., who is a top player in the draft.

Cam Hart’s draft stock has absolutely skyrocketed this offseason. Going into the draft process, Hart was a little bit of an unknown in comparison to other corner prospects. Hart did not have much production stats-wise in college, which was a worry for some people, but he showed a lot of talent. Cam Hart participated in the Senior Bowl and there, he shined. In the Senior Bowl game, Hart showed his great tackling ability very early. Hart also participated in the NFL Combine, measuring 6-foot-3, 202 pounds. These are very good measurements, and with that, he also ran a 4.50-second 40-yard dash. By having a great Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, Hart has improved his draft stock to a top 100 prospect.

For now, the Saints do not have to target a cornerback prospect very early in the draft, but they love to draft DBs. If Hart drops to the 4th round, it would be very possible that the Saints would want to trade up for him. Hart ticks many boxes: He is a senior bowl prospect, great size, great tackling, and is primarily a man coverage corner. Hart has a lot of potential but also has a lot of intangibles that any defensive head coach would want.
